The clippings collection
Since its founding in 1958, KvinnSam has collected newspaper clippings related to women’s history and women’s living conditions. This is known as the clippings collection and consists of newspaper clippings that have been donated, as well as clippings previously gathered by staff members. The collection is mainly in Swedish.
The clippings collection is organized according to KvinnSam’s subject heading system, KAO, and contains clippings on topics such as abortion, soldiers, day care centers, managers, housewives, househusbands, cleaning, sports, and the issue of women priests. As the subject heading system is based on a female norm, a subject heading such as soldiers, for example, refers to clippings about women who are soldiers. There is also a biographical section, where the clippings are organized by name.
The clippings collection is not comprehensive. If you wish to search for a specific topic in the Swedish press, you can also use the computers at Gothenburg University Library, which provide full access to the Svenska tidningar database from the National Library of Sweden.
The clippings collection is no longer being updated, and consists of about 30 shelf meters of newspaper clippings and is located in KvinnSam’s staff areas. Please contact us if your are intrerested in the collection and would like to learn more, or want to visit us and study it.
