About us

KvinnSam is a unique resource in Sweden. We are the national library for gender research, and since 2018 we constitute a university-wide research infrastructure at the University of Gothenburg.

Our work includes monitoring and cataloguing research and literature concerning gender issues, and we collect, organise and record archive materials pertaining to women’s history. We also provide reference services and support the development and coordination of research projects related to the KvinnSam collections and areas of expertise.

KvinnSam is part of the Gothenburg University Library and shares its facilities with the Humanities Library.

KvinnSam is led by Director Linda Börjesson and Deputy Director AnnaLena Bergquist.

In brief, the core mission of KvinnSam includes:

  • National information provision through library work and the production of databases and other digital resources.
  • Unique collections of archival materials.
  • Specialised expertise provided by the KvinnSam university librarians, along with an archivist and a research coordinator.
  • Support for the development and coordination of research projects related to the KvinnSam collections.
  • An integral part of the strong gender research environment in Gothenburg.

Expertise and support from KvinnSam

We support researchers, students, and the general public interested in finding information and research on women’s history and gender research, as well as those who want to explore the KvinnSam library collections and unique archives.

We offer reference consultations, search support, and systematic literature searches. In addition, we support the development and coordination of research projects connected to the KvinnSam collections. We are experts on metadata related to archives and databases within the fields of gender research and women’s history.

We provide library instruction at all academic levels, for both students and researchers. We welcome group visits and offer guided tours of our library and archives.
